Forsythe shuts up shop

Gerald Forsythe has announced that he is going to close down Forsythe Championship Racing Ltd, the Champ Car team, saying that he cannot find the budget to race in the Indy Racing League.

Gerald Forsythe has announced that he is going to close down Forsythe Championship Racing Ltd, the Champ Car team, saying that he cannot find the budget to race in the Indy Racing League. The team has been in operation for 13 years and in recent years has employed Paul Tracy. The team will appear at Long Beach, the last Champ Car event, but will not transfer to IRL.

The announcement throws cold water over the recently-announced merger between the two series and is a major blow for the series as Forsythe was one of the top Champ Car teams. It remains to be seen whether Forsythe's partner Dan Pettit will attempt to run his own operation but that does not seem very likely at the moment.
