The start of the Formula 1 season has not been an easy one for the Renault F1 team, after what was a very poor year in 2007. The team has not looked very competitive thus far although Fernando Alonso has managed to score points in both of the first two races. However, finishing 70secs behind the winning Ferrari in Malaysia, was a very large margin and it is hard to imagine that such a gap can be closed easily when all the teams are working hard on new developments.

Team principal Flavio Briatore says that he thinks that the team can still win races this year as there are plans for a new technical package at the Spanish GP. The team has not won a race since October 2006. Brazilian rookie Nelson Piquet did a solid job in Malaysia after a dreadful debut in Australia.
