Bomb scare in Monaco

Police were called to carry out the controlled explosion of a white package containing wires that was found outside the media centre on Thursday night in Monaco.

Police were none the wiser after the event, although the suspicious package was not a bomb. It capped a dramatic day for the organisers after two spectators were injured when an access plank collapsed in the K2 grandstand that overlooks Monte Carlo's harbour front.

One was able to break his fall and sustained only light bruising, while the other suffered leg injuries and was treated at Monaco's Princess Grace Hospital.

"If it's going to happen and you want to sue on health and safety grounds, what better place than here?" said a fellow spectator with a sense of humour. "Much better than India..."
