The first Formula SAE Italia competition, which gives universities the opportunity to build their own racing cars, has been won by a team from the Graz University of Technology in Austria. The pan-European competition, organised by the Associazione Tecnica dell'Automobile, attracted 12 entries but Graz dominated, winning the tests for acceleration, endurance, design and in the skid-pan. The Italian Universita di Firenze team was second while Britain lagged behind on this occasion with Brunel University, the highest ranked UK team, in only fifth place. The four-day event was held at the Fiat testing facility at Balocco.
