Constructed in 1962 from a design by John Hugenholtz, it was Honda's test track for many years. Regularly the scene of championship-deciding events since its first appearance in 1987, when Nigel Mansell crashed in practice to allow Nelson Piquet to take the title. Its most infamous years were the clashes between Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost in 1989-90. Although a favourite of the drivers it offers only one overtaking place into the final chicane after the hair-raising blast through the 130R bend.
