BRAZILIAN Ricardo Zonta escaped unhurt after his Jordan crashed out of Thursday's test at Monza at 285 kph.

Zonta, who stood in for Heinz-Harald Frentzen in the Canadian Grand Prix, was sent spinning into the barriers after suffering suspected suspension failure.

The session was stopped for just ten minutes, during which time the teams present took advantage of the change to test practice starts.

David Coulthard topped the times for McLaren with a time just outside the one minute and 23 seconds mark, and Kimi Raikkonen was second, just two-tenths of a second slower.

Mika Hakkinen was third as the McLaren pair clocked up an impressive total of 137 laps of the Italian circuit.

Jarno Trulli claimed fourth fastest time for Jordan, but was eight tenths of a second off the pace, while Andre Lotterer continued to stand in for Jaguar's Eddie Irvine and finished the day fifth.

Darren Manning put the British American Racing car through its paces before his appearance at Goodwood this weekend, as Pedro de la Rosa finished one behind in eighth.
