What if?

If, according to the rumours swirling in the F1 paddock in Belgium, the McLaren team has been thrown out of the F1 World Championship for 2007 and 2008 there will be many effects, not just in terms of the immediate impact on the team but also on the long term funding.

If, according to the rumours swirling in the F1 paddock in Belgium, the McLaren team has been thrown out of the F1 World Championship for 2007 and 2008 there will be many effects, not just in terms of the immediate impact on the team but also on the long term funding.

The sponsors are obviously not going to be happy with such news but the loss of money from the Formula One group in terms of prize money will be something in the region of $150m for a two-year period. It could even be worse than that because this would probably affect the 2009 season as well as a team must finish in the top 10 in the Constructors' Championship in two of the last three seasons to be able to claim money.
