JORDAN'S Heinz-Harald Frentzen topped the times in the first day of testing at Silverstone on Tuesday, despite losing the morning session to adverse weather conditions.

The Northamptonshire-circuit was hit by early morning fog which left the five teams - Jordan, Jaguar, Arrows, Sauber and Benetton - without any lap times for the morning session.

But Frentzen, who finished seventh in the French Grand Prix, performed 51 laps in the afternoon session and recorded a quickest lap time of one minute and 27.130 seconds.

The German narrowly beat Sauber's Pedro Diniz into second while Jaguar's Johnny Herbert overcame his gearbox problems of France to go third quickest.

Arrows' Jos Verstappen, Alexander Wurz and test driver Antonio Pizzonia of Benetton, and Jaguar test driver Luciano Burti completed the times.
