Two cars destroyed, Ferrari cancels Barcelona test

Rubens Barrichello followed his teammate's example and crashed the only Ferrari fit to test in Barcelona on Wednesday afternoon.

RUBENS BARRICHELLO followed his teammate's example and crashed the only Ferrari fit to test in Barcelona on Wednesday afternoon. After Michael Schumacher's shunt in the morning in turn 12, which destroyed the F2001 he was driving, Barrichello proceeded to follow suit, and destroy his in turn 9 later in the day. Both drivers walked away unscathed, but the Ferrari squad have cancelled the remainder of the Barcelona test, and sent both cars back to Fiorano to be repaired.

Before the crashes, the two Ferrari stars were setting some fast laps in Barcelona on Wednesday. Barrichello and Schumacher were the two fastest drivers on the track Wednesday, followed by the Ferrari powered Sauber C21 driven by Nick Heidfeld.

Williams tested with Marc Gene, Ralf Schumacher and Juan-Pablo Montoya, and Renault with Jarno Trulli and Jenson Button again.

The two Honda powered teams, BAR and Jordan, both tested at the Circuit de Catalunya Wednesday. BAR fielded Olivier Panis and Jacques Villeneuve, and Jordan tested with Giancarlo Fisichella, Takuma Sato and, for the second straight day, 19 year-old Marcel Lasee.

Toyota ended up at the bottom of the time sheet again Wednesday, with both Mika Salo and Alan McNish more than three and a half seconds off Barrichello's pace.
