Hulkenberg was the leading man in the midfield from the moment Aston Martin’s car development stalled. Reassured by having a three-year contract with Audi in hos pocket, completely outshone Magnussen in the internal battle at Haas and scored points whenever possible. A fan of the sprint race format, drove brilliantly in Miami and Austin to get inside the top ten and them was the star of qualifying in Abu Dhabi, losing P4 on the grid to an avoidable penalty. Kept Haas in the fight for 6th place in the championship until the final laps of the season and will leave a big hole in the American team from the start of next year.
