Lewis Hamilton, eighth

Lewis had a few moments of tremendous brilliance during this difficult year but way too many off days to make justice to his amazing talent. Drove a few heroic races, in Silverstone and Abu Dhabi, for example, but often faltered in qualifying, leaving himself with too much to do on Sunday afternoon.

Found it hard to cope with the emotions of knowing this was his last season with Mercedes as he had already signed with Ferrari before the start of the championship, feeling increasingly certain not everyone inside the team was still giving him their all. Ended on a high, with a tremendous drive in Yas Marina, to show the speed and race craft are still there.
