Oscar Piastri, sixth

Piastri won two Grand Prix, no mean feat for such a young driver, and kept Norris honest for most of the season. Did make progress compared to his rookie season, particularly in the way he managed the tyres and controlled his race pace but seemed to lack the ultimate one-lap pace to be a serious internal rival for Norris.

Looked set to become McLaren’s leading driver before the summer break but his form dipped after peaking with an amazing with in Baku and, from then on, only occasionally had the measure of his more experienced team mate. Needs to make another step in 2025 to avoid becoming the natural number two inside the team.
