DECEMBER 22, 1997
RICHARD TOMLINSON, who worked as a buyer with Stewart Grand Prix this season, has been jailed for 12 months under Britain's Official Secrets Act. Tomlinson joined Stewart after a career with the Secret Intelligence Service. He was fired in 1995 and decided to write a book about his adventures, including details of MI6's training techniques and some of its operations. Tomlinson pleaded guilty to the charges but argued that his disclosures were not aimed at endangering national security but at drawing attention to his grievances resulting from his dismissal.
The entire bizarre story of Tomlinson has been something of an embarrassment to Stewart Grand Prix.
