THE Suzuka circuit, which hosts the Japanese Grand Prix, will feature changes for the 2001 World Championship in a bid to increase driver safety in Formula One.

A number of changes will be made to Suzuka, which will host the season finale next year, although the full renovations will not be evident for the 2001 race.

The safety zones at S-Corner, Dunlop Corner and Degner Curve will all be widened to reduce the chances of any driver being seriously hurt, with the work expected to be completed by March.

The pit-lane and paddock areas will be improved for the race in October with a bigger media centre, extra pit garages and improved team suites being added.

Formula One fans will get improved viewing facilities for the 2002 Japanese Grand Prix with extra seating being added.
