Silverstone to expose F1's battery problem again says Verstappen

Max Verstappen thinks Formula 1's controversial 2026 regulations will come under renewed scrutiny at Silverstone this weekend despite recent tweaks to improve the racing.

The Dutchman has been one of the biggest critics of the new hybrid era, likening some of the energy management demands to 'Mario Kart'.

After Red Bull's major upgrade helped him finish second in Austria, Verstappen warned the next circuit will expose the remaining shortcomings of the regulations.

I love Silverstone, he is quoted as saying by motorsport-magazin.com.

"But after doing a few laps in the simulator, I just burst out laughing. Frankly, behind the wheel of the new cars, Silverstone feels like a completely different track.

You barely have enough battery power to even complete a lap.

Verstappen explained that Silverstone's layout makes energy recovery particularly difficult.

"It's going to feel totally different from what we're used to in Silverstone, because of the configuration of the circuit.

You have long straights here and large braking zones, he said at the Red Bull Ring, "allowing you to charge the battery.

"In Silverstone, you also have long straights, but fast turns, preventing you from charging the battery. On the next straight you have little energy.

It's going to be very tough.

Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton, who is preparing for his home race, agreed that Silverstone will place the new power units under particular strain.

You have a lot of straights in Silverstone, he said.

Lots of straights, where you ask a lot of the battery, and not many places to recharge the battery.
