Sepang safety improvements underway
The Sepang circuit, home of the Malaysian Grand Prix, has started development work to improve the safety of the track ahead of the last race of this year's championship on October 22.
The circuit is preparing to host only its second Grand Prix and by the time the race is held the Sepang management will have spent $8 million (US Dollars) upgrading the circuit this year.
A protective transparent shield has been added to the top of the pit-wall to protect pit-crews, mechanics and team personnel.
Also, the gravel trap at the first corner has been extended, drainage around the track has been improved, and approximately 80 per cent of the seating for the estimated 94,000 crowd will now be sheltered after covers were extended on the stands.
"The safety features are part of a $8 million (US Dollars) upgrade to the track," said Sepang spokesman Azhar Ghazali.
