The German, who ended Ferrari's 21-year wait for a drivers' crown, topped the standings with 1190 points for the season ahead of his McLaren rivals Mika Hakkinen and David Coulthard.

Schumacher's Ferrari team-mate Rubens Barrichello was ranked the fourth best driver in the world ahead of rivals from other motor racing fields.

American Le Mans Series drivers Frank Biela, Emmanuelle Pirro, Allan McNish and Rinaldo Capello all features in the top ten along with Japanese Formula 3000 driver Toranosuke Takagi.
