Schrempp talks of post-Kirch F1

The chief executive of DaimlerChrysler, says that the automobile manufacturers could reach a deal with Bernie Ecclestone over the future of Formula 1 if "our legitimate wishes can be satisfied, including that Formula 1 be on free-to-air television."

JURGEN SCHREMPP, the chief executive of DaimlerChrysler, says that the automobile manufacturers could reach a deal with Bernie Ecclestone over the future of Formula 1 if "our legitimate wishes can be satisfied, including that Formula 1 be on free-to-air television."

Schrempp was speaking at the DaimlerChrysler annual general meeting in Berlin.

The German executive has been at the forefront of plans for the establishment of a World Championship to replace Formula One. This plan was been backed up with the formation of a company called GPWC Holding which is planning for a series in 2008 when the current Concorde Agreement runs out.

Schrempp said that the manufacturers are still prepared to establish a rival series but would listen to proposals from whoever ends up holding the rights.

There are suggestions that the car manufacturers will meet at this weekend's San Marino Grand Prix to discuss the rival World Championship.
