Dumas, a protege of longtime Renault favourite Erik Comas, was a frontrunner in the Euro F3000 title this year driving for John Village Automotive in a 1999 Lola Formula 3000 car. Dumas is looking for a way to continue to progress towards F1 and the Renault test will do him no harm at all although it is not thought likely that it will lead to anything as it is expected that Renault will soon sign up France's Sebastien Bourdais to be its 2003 test driver. Bourdais won the International F3000 title after Czech Tomas Enge was excluded from a race after he failed a drugs test.
