GERMAN GRAND PRIX race organisers have revealed that the man who caused the race to be run under the safety car was a Mercedes worker protesting against his sacking.

GERMAN GRAND PRIX race organisers have revealed that the man who caused the race to be run under the safety car was a Mercedes worker protesting against his sacking.

The man, a Frenchman, walked onto the track with McLaren duo Mika Hakkinen and David Coulthard, whose cars are powered by Mercedes, leading the race.

Circuit officials revealed that the man had tried to get onto to the track prior to the race but was removed by German police, who chose not to arrest him.

The man, who has lost his job with Mercedes at their Le Mans factory, saw his action prevent McLaren from racing to victory at Hockenheim.
