Prost defends Heidfeld

ALAIN PROST has defended his team's young German driver Nick Heidfeld after a string of disappointing performances this season.

Heidfeld has suffered a series of mechanical problems with his Prost car which has prevented the McLaren-contracted driver to show his true potential, so claims Prost.

"Nick has had a difficult time," said Prost. "His enrolment was part of a McLaren deal and he is a racer who has won in Formula Three and he is the F3000 champion.

"He has had loads of problems in the races and it's true it has not been an easy situation, but during the winter he did some excellent tests. He just needs a bit of time to establish himself."
