No French GP in 2008?

The F©d©ration Fran§aise du Sport Automobile (FFSA) has decided to take a year out of the FIA Formula 1 World Championship in 2008. The Magny-Cours circuit is reckoned to be no longer viable from a financial point of view and it is too early for other projects.

The F©d©ration Fran§aise du Sport Automobile (FFSA) has decided to take a year out of the FIA Formula 1 World Championship in 2008. The Magny-Cours circuit is reckoned to be no longer viable from a financial point of view and it is too early for other projects.

There is a plan to make changes to Magny-Cours to bring the circuit up to scratch but it does not seem that this is sufficient unless the access roads can be improved and it is not going to be possible to lengthen the A77 motorway in the time available. The earliest that is going to happen in 2010. The FFSA is thus looking for a longer-term solution for 2009 onwards, closer to Paris. There are currently two projects being studied: one at Disneyland Paris and the other at the Parc des Expositions in Villepinte, an area which is located close to the Charles de Gaulle Airport at Roissy, just to the north of Paris.
