Newey stays with McLaren as future is resolved
THE future of Adrian Newey finally came to a close on Wednesday after his future was resolved in the High Court in London.
Newey will remain in his current position with the Woking-based McLaren team after both teams reached an agreement over the technical director's future.
Jaguar thought they had captured a man regarded as the best designer in the sport when his contract ended with McLaren in 2002, but the two teams ended confusion over his future in a joint statement.
"I would like to apologize for any misunderstanding that has been caused over what has become a confused and complex affair," McLaren chairman Ron Dennis said.
"I am sure that in the future, our relationship will be an excellent one and that our rivalries will be confined to on-track competition."
Newey apologized for the confusion over his future in which he allegedly signed a contract with close friend Bobby Rahal, and said he is happy to put everything behind him.
Newey said: "I regret that this matter has occurred but I am delighted that it has now been resolved. I apologize for any difficulties that have been caused.
"I am sure that we will all now put this matter behind us and concentrate on our common passion for motor racing."
Jaguar boss Niki Lauda admitted that he is glad to put an end to the saga, despite not getting his man and said the team accepted McLaren's full apology.
"I am glad that this matter has been concluded and it is gracious of Ron and Adrian to each offer an apology which are fully accepted by Jaguar Racing," Lauda said.
