Virgin Mobile joins Jordan Grand Prix

JORDAN announced a sponsorship deal with British telecom company Virgin Mobile Friday, to begin at this weekend's San Marino GP. Virgin, founded and managed by Sir Richard Branson, has become the team's official telecommunications supplier, and the Virgin logo now appears on the EJ12, as well as on team personnel and pit crew, in the pit and paddock areas and even on Eddie Jordan's headset.

EJ commented on the deal, "I am delighted to welcome Virgin Mobile to the Jordan family of sponsors. As the fastest growing mobile network in the UK, and with its aggressive international expansion plans into markets where Formula One is popular, I believe this is a good fit for the two companies. Jordan and Virgin Mobile have very similar styles, and both enjoy challenging the big competitors in their respective fields through innovative marketing, leading edge technology and the best use of their resources."

Telecom sponsorship in F1 is alive and healthy. Vodafone's Ferrari sponsorship has bee very successful, as has Orange's sponsorship of Arrows, despite the team's lackluster performance. The Schumacher brothers have even agreed to a deal with Radiolinja that will see the Finnish mobile phone company providing official Schumacher mobile phone graphics, available for download to fans.
