Monza, not Mugello, should host F1 says Arrivabene

Monza should be the permanent home of the Italian grand prix.

Monza should be the permanent home of the Italian grand prix.

That is the claim of Maurizio Arrivabene, Ferrari's team boss.

At the weekend, he made a visit to Mugello, which has often been mentioned as a potential alternative venue for the Italian grand prix.

Monza's current place on the schedule is in doubt, as the promoter Sias and Bernie Ecclestone argue over the price of the next contract.

It has been rumoured Ferrari wouldn't mind if Monza's run ends, as it could then propose to host F1 at its own Mugello circuit.

When asked about Monza's situation whilst trackside at Mugello for the MotoGP round, Arrivabene said: "This is not my job. I'm not a politician.

"But for me, the Italian grand prix is at Monza and it must stay there. At Maranello, there is a picture of Enzo Ferrari on the track at Monza and that says it all," he is quoted by Italian media.

"I think for F1 it is the same for MotoGP, where Assen, Jerez and Mugello should be safeguarded. For F1 it is Hockenheim, Spa, Silverstone and of course Monza," Arrivabene added.
