Monza finally gets the go-ahead
THE Italian Grand Prix will take place at Monza - and it's official.
The government will now have to steamroller the local environmental agencies which are still causing problems in order to begin the chopping down of 180 trees, which have to go to make way for run-off areas. We hear that the government is proposing to open up new parkland areas in the Monza/Milan area to compensate for the work being done.
It is good news for Formula 1 as Italy is one of the most important races on the calendar - particularly when Ferrari is doing well. Ferrari will be highly competitive on the fast sweeps of Monza, and Jean Alesi is already been tipped as a likely winner - as he was last year, taking pole and leading the race until he suffered a gearbox failure.
