Montoya sets record pace at final day in Valencia
Williams and BAR returned to Valencia on Sunday, where Juan-Pablo Montoya shattered the track record in the new BMW powered FW24.
WILLIAMS and BAR returned to Valencia on Sunday, where Juan-Pablo Montoya shattered the track record in the new BMW powered FW24. Frank Williams and Patrick Head were on hand to watch their driver break the previous track record by more than a second. The Colombian's teammate Ralf Schumacher also worked at developing the new Williams chassis, and was the second fastest driver at the Ricardo Tormo circuit Sunday, the last day of the team's seven day program.
BAR fielded its two race drivers, as well as two test drivers in Valencia for their last day of a five day test. Olivier Panis and Jacques Villeneuve both ran into trouble in new BAR004 chassis. Panis suffered an engine failure and Villeneuve's day ended early due to transmission trouble. Young Japanese driver Ryo Fukuda completed his second day of testing in a 003 chassis, and fellow test driver Anthony Davidson also worked behind the wheel of a 2001 car.
