Monaco in Florida?

LONDON BRIDGE was moved to the United States brick by brick, but CART is hoping that less drastic measures will be required to conjure up the magic of the Monaco Grand Prix.

The struggling series is aiming to break new ground in Florida with the construction of a new circuit on the shores of Tampa Bay.

The St. Petersburg circuit is the brainchild of Long Beach promoter Chris Pook, and will combine the waterfront with the city's Albert Whitted Airport to make a high speed yet picturesque setting for the CART series, which is dropping its Champ Car title for 2002. St. Petersburg last hosted a major event in 1990, when the Trans-Am series visited on a different circuit.
