Michele forever!
On the Thursday before the Italian Grand Prix, a sculpture dedicated to Michele Alboreto was unveiled in Monza. The Italian driver tragically died while testing at the Lausitzring, on April 25, 2001, and as a tribute to him, an iron sculpture, from Italian artist Lorenzo Martinoli, was unveiled during the Italian Grand Prix weekend.

The cerimony took place in the presence of ACI President Angelo Sticchi Damiani, Michele’s widow Nadia and their daughter Noemi, as well as sculptor Lorenzo Martinoli. The large metal work depicts a red trail that follows the helmet of the Milanese driver with the number 27 in the center: two iconic elements of Alboreto.
The sculpture will soon be permanently positioned near the former Curva Parabolica, which from 2021 was renamed after Michele. A picture of his helmet had been painted on the asphalt of the escape road in the unmistakable yellow and blue colors.
Unfortunately, over the years the mural was completely lost when the track was resurfaced. That’s why it was decided to create a monument destined to last over time and which will forever remember a driver of great human and sporting value.
