Meanwhile at Knockhill

While Formula 1 was in Monte Carlo, the British Formula 3 series visited glamorous Knockhill, near Dunfermline in Scotland and the event resulted in victories for Venezuela's Ernesto Viso and Britain's James Rossiter. In the first race Viso held off Australian Will Power (Alan Docking Racing) throughout the race, while Rossiter was third. Championship contender Nelson Piquet Jr qualified badly and then had a collision with Estonia's Marko Asmer but managed to salvage a single point. In the second race there were complaints about Rossiter's tactics when the field was behind a Safety Car but the Englishman got away with a fine. Power was second again while Piquet did a lot better than in the earlier race and finished third ahead of Hitech's Lucas Di Grassi and Indian Karun Chandhok who had his best result of the year with fifth place. Rossiter has now increased his lead in the championship to 14 points over Nelson Piquet Jr. The championship remains close, however, with five different winners in seven races and two (Power and Piquet) who are in the fight for the championship without having won a race.

Australian Will Davison, who started the year with three podium finishes, was hoping for a big result at Knockhill to help him keep his programme going but was involved in a couple of accidents. Davison is trying to raise the money to continue his programme at Snetterton in a fortnight. Davison says that unless he can find backing he will have to abandon his hopes in Europe and head home to Australia and see what he do in the popular V8 Supercar series.
