Vitantonio Liuzzi continued his domination of the FIA Formula 3000 Championship with pole position for the sixth time in seven races. To date the Arden International driver has won five of the six races, beating all existing records in the 20-year history of the series. Until this year no driver had won more than four races in the same season, that record being shared by eight different drivers (Christian Danner in 1985, Roberto Moreno in 1988, Erik Comas in 1990, Emanuele Naspetti in 1991, Luca Badoer in 1992, Juan Pablo Montoya in 1998, Nick Heidfeld in 1999 and Bruno Junqueira in 2000). Liuzzi is not closing in on the overall record of career wins in Formula 3000 which is currently shared between Heidfeld and Montoya, both of whom won seven races in their Formula 3000 careers.
