Liam Lawson to drive for RB team, replacing Ricciardo
Liam Lawson has been confirmed to drive for the Visa Cash App Red Bull team for the rest of the 2024 FIA Formula One season. Lawson, who served as a Red Bull reserve driver since 2022, steps in to replace Daniel Ricciardo, starting with the United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas.
Lawson made his F1 debut last year, filling in for Ricciardo during his recovery for a injured wrist, impressing the team by scoring points with a ninth-place finish at the Singapore GP.
Team Principal, Laurent Mekies, acknowledged Ricciardo’s contribution: “Everyone here at VCARB would like to thank Daniel for his hard work across the last two seasons with us. He has brought a lot of experience and talent to the Team with a fantastic attitude, which has helped everyone to develop and foster a tight team spirit.”
Mekies also welcomed Lawson, confident in his ability to integrate smoothly: “It’s great to see young talent from within the Red Bull family make the next step. We’re looking forward to getting our heads down and focusing on the rest of the season together.”
Lawson will team up with Yuki Tsunoda for the remaining races, marking a new chapter for the team.
