Officials from the newly-built Lausitzring circuit are in talks with the FIA over replacing Hockenheim as the host of the German Grand Prix.

The Lausitzring, which is in Klettwitz, Brandenburg, will be opened officially in August, but management officials from the circuit have already opened talks to prize the event away from Hockenheim.

Hockenheim will host the German Grand Prix on July 30 and will continue as the host on next year's calendar. But it is to be replaced in 2002 with Lausitzring the favourite to take over.
