Lausitzring declared insolvent

THE company which runs the EuroSpeedway at Lausitzring in the old East Germany has declared itself to be insolvent. The vast facility, built in an old open-cast coal mine, features an oval, a road track and a huge testing oval, was largely funded by money from the German state of Brandenberg.

The Germans hope that the facility will continue to operate (as does CART which is the one big event which the Lausitzring does have) and the latest rumors are that likely buyers include Octagon (which runs most of the racing circuits in Britain), the France Family's International Speedway Corporation and its rival Speedway Motorsports Inc.
