Lauda to test new Jaguar in January

Jaguar Managing Director Niki Lauda plans to get behind the wheel of his team's new championship contender, the R3, in January in order to better understand the car.

JAGUAR Managing Director Niki Lauda plans to get behind the wheel of his team's new championship contender, the R3, in January in order to better understand the car.

The three-time World Champion will test the new car, which is scheduled to be launched on January 4, at Valencia in Spain on January 13.

"My goal is not to go faster than Eddie Irvine or Pedro de la Rosa. I'm only interested in the technical details", said the Austrian team boss.

Lauda's last stint behind the wheel of a Formula One car was in 2000, in a McLaren two-seater. His last season in Formula One was in 1985, also with McLaren.
