Kolles takes on F1 names

Colin Kolles may be out of Formula 1 but the former head of Force India is busy with a number of other teams in 2009. His long-established Formula 3 operation has been revived under the name of Kolles & Heinz Union, a collaboration with driver manager Werner Heinz, who has overseen the careers of a string of celebrated names such as Nick Heidfeld, Frank Biela and Tom Kristensen.

Colin Kolles may be out of Formula 1 but the former head of Force India is busy with a number of other teams in 2009. His long-established Formula 3 operation has been revived under the name of Kolles & Heinz Union, a collaboration with driver manager Werner Heinz, who has overseen the careers of a string of celebrated names such as Nick Heidfeld, Frank Biela and Tom Kristensen. The new team has signed a deal to use Volkswagen engines and has taken on Carlo Van Dam. The team will be run by Mike Krack, who has been the chief engineer of BMW Sauber in recent years.

Kolles is also intending to continue to run his DTM team with a pair of Audis. He has signed up Christian Bakkerud to drive one car and is still to decide on the other.

In addition to all of this, Kolles has acquired two Audi R10 sports cars with the intention to take part in the Le Mans Series and the Le Mans 24 Hours. The team will be run by Jacky Eeckelaert, who was head of engineering at Honda Racing F1 last year. The drivers have yet to be announced by Bakkerud will be one.
