John Hogan dies at 77

F1 sponsorship pioneer John Hogan has died from Covid-19 at the age of 77.

F1 sponsorship pioneer John Hogan has died from Covid-19 at the age of 77.

Hogan was best known overseeing sponsorship for cigarette maker Philip Morris, which over the years would lead to World Championships for James Hunt, Niki Lauda, Alain Prost, Ayrton Senna and Michael Schumacher.

Hogan famously brockerd the deal that saw Ron Dennis taking over the McLaren team, which became a major force in Formula One over the following years. In 1996 Marlboro pulled out of it’s sponsorship on McLaren, and focussed fully on the Ferrari team, leading to five titles with Michael Schumacher with the team.

For many year’s Hogan was the sponsor representative on the Formula One Commission.
