Jenson Button will stay at British American Racing in 2005, following a decison by the Contract Recognition Board. The decision, taken after a lengthy hearing at the weekend in Milan, means that the BMW Williams team must look for a new driver for next year. The team is most likely to choose Antonio Pizzonia but will test Nick Heidfeld and possibly others this autumn before a definitive decision is made.

The decision is great news for BAR-Honda which will be able to keep together the driver line-up which has taken the team to second in the Constructors' title this year. Although Button has expressed a desire to move to Williams on several occasions it is not believed that the team is willing to get involved in paying compensation to BAR.

The decision is likely to get the F1 driver market moving again after several weeks of stagnation.
