Jaguar joins Barcelona test with R3B

Testing continued in Barcelona at the Circuit de Catalunya Thursday, where McLaren out-paced the field.

TESTING continued in Barcelona at the Circuit de Catalunya Thursday, where McLaren out-paced the field. Kimi Raikkonen led all drivers, posting a best time of 1:17.753, one tenth of a second faster than teammate Alexander Wurz.

Most interest in Barcelona was paid to Jaguar, who ran the newly redesigned R3B for the first time, with Eddie Irvine behind the wheel. Irvine finished the day at the bottom of the time sheet, completing 52 laps, but the team still declared the day a positive one. Pedro De la Rosa will take over for Irvine on Friday, as the team also tests Minardi's Mark Webber.

Williams returned to the Circuit de Catalunya with Antonio Pizzonia and Marc Gene for a productive day of testing. The pair completed 176 laps between them Thursday.

Heinz-Harald Frentzen tested for Arrows, and caused one of the day's delays when his Arrows suffered a mechanical failure on the circuit.

Sauber's Felipe Massa had the biggest crash of the day, when his C21 suffered brake failure. "Apart for my brake problem at the end of the day, this has been a very productive two-days for me," said Massa. "On both days I did a lot of laps with the Sauber Petronas C21. After this test, I am feeling confident for Silverstone. I am looking forward to the British Grand Prix next week."

Jenson Button, fastest at the circuit on Wednesday, was fifth fastest in the Renault R202, and Giancarlo Fisichella was sixth fastest for Jordan.
