Jack Doohan to make Formula 1 debut with Alpine at Abu Dhabi Grand Prix

BWT Alpine Formula One Team has announced that reserve driver Jack Doohan will make his Formula 1 debut at the 2024 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, stepping in for Esteban Ocon. The move allows Ocon to transition early to Haas and participate in the post-season test at Yas Marina Circuit.

Doohan, the 21-year-old Australian and son of MotoGP legend Mick Doohan, will race under the #61, his registered reserve driver number. The young talent has already been confirmed as a full-time Alpine driver for the 2025 season alongside Pierre Gasly.

The decision marks the end of Ocon’s tenure with Alpine, where he achieved the team’s maiden F1 victory. The team expressed gratitude for his contributions and wished him success in his future endeavors.

Doohan’s debut will serve as a valuable precursor to his full-time F1 career, providing crucial track experience in preparation for the 2025 season opener. He will also participate in the post-season test for Alpine at Yas Marina Circuit.

This strategic move positions Alpine to strengthen its hold on fourth place in the Constructors’ Championship, as they lead Haas by a narrow margin heading into the final race weekend.
