Ferrari has suspended work at its Maranello base after another earthquake in the Emilia region of northern Italy.

Although the Ferrari factory has not been directly affected, at least nine people have been killed, with several others buried under rubble. The loss of life is understood to be in the Modena area, with the centre of the quake 60km north of Bologna and 60 miles east of Parma.

The tremor, measuring just under six on the Richter scale, was felt in Bologna and Milan and three of the deaths came when an industrial shed collapsed in Medolla. It is the same region that was hit 10 days ago, with the cost of seven lives.

Ferrari's employees have been permitted to return home to join their families.
