Italian GP still in danger
THE Italian government may have given assurances to the FIA that safety work at Monza will be carried out so that the Italian Grand Prix can take place at the Autodromo Nazionale on September 11 - but the government has yet to approve the plans put forward by the regional government which will cost $6 million and mean that 185 trees will have to be cut down.
The plan, which was presented to the cabinet last week by the president of the Lombardy region, Roberto Formigoni, is believed to include provisions to renovate the Monza Park in which the circuit is located to make it much more user-friendly than it currently is. Unfortunately no decision was taken before the meeting broke up and the cabinet will now consider the Monza question tomorrow.
The major opposition to the plans comes from environmentalists who argue that the trees in the park should be left as they are.
