The 2023 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, scheduled for this weekend at Imola, has been cancelled due to severe flooding in the Italian region.

The decision, involving F1, the FIA, and race organisers, follows the deaths of at least two people and significant displacement due to the weather conditions. The F1 community is focusing on ensuring safety and not adding burden to the local authorities dealing with the disaster.

F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali expressed sympathy for the victims and commended the emergency services. The extensive flooding has made the circuit unsafe, and ongoing risk to the community and strain on emergency services have led to the decision to cancel the race. Given the full calendar, it is unlikely the race will be rescheduled this year. The next race is the Monaco GP, slated for the weekend of May 26-28.
