Green impresses

Jamie Green is not a name that has made a huge impression in Formula 1 until the recent French Grand Prix at Magny-Cours. Green claimed a dominant win the first Formula 3 Euroseries race on Saturday. The second race saw him starting from seventh on the grid because of rain in qualifying on Friday and Green then suffered a setback when he was hit from behind at the Adelaide Hairpin by Loic Duval. This punted him into Lewis Hamilton.

"I was surprised that the car wasn't damaged," said Green, "but a the engine stalled I had to wait for the whole pack to pass before the marshals could push me and get the engine started."

Green then charged through the field with impressive speed and by the end of the race had worked his way back up to ninth and was challenging for eighth. He was pushed off on the last lap as he tried to grab eighth position but was happy with the weekend as he increases his lead in the championship to 34 points over his team mate Alexandre Premat.

We hear that Green's performance did impress some in Formula 1 circles and we believe that BAR is having a look at giving him a run, perhaps with the aim of giving him a fulltime test drive in 2005, if Anthony Davidson moves elsewhere.

Green was a karting champion who switched to car racing in 2002 in Formula Renault, finishing second in the British series at his first attempt. He went on to win the Formula Renault race at the Macau Grand Prix and made his Formula 3 debut a fortnight later in the Korean GP. He finished runner-up in the British Formula 3 Championship in his first year, beaten only by the more experienced Alan Van der Merwe and decided to race in Europe in 2004. He is now well on his way to the title and hopes to use the year to learn the major F1 circuits in Europe. At the moment he has 82 points to Alexander Premat's 48.
