GM launches Cadillac Formula 1 Team for 2026

General Motors has announced the launch of the Cadillac Formula 1 Team, set to debut in the 2026 season. This marks F1’s first new team since 2016 and positions Cadillac to become a “full works” team by the end of the decade, manufacturing its own vehicles and power units.

The initiative is a collaboration with TWG Global, leveraging facilities in Indiana, Michigan, North Carolina, and England. The team’s advanced technology efforts in aerodynamics, software, and vehicle dynamics will also influence GM’s consumer vehicle innovations, reinforcing the company’s leadership in electrification and powertrain advancements.

“This is a global stage to showcase GM’s engineering expertise and Cadillac’s design,” said GM President Mark Reuss. “We’re committed to pushing boundaries in F1.”

Racing legend Mario Andretti, the last American F1 champion, will serve as a director on the team’s board. “Seventy years after my first love with F1, being part of this venture feels like a dream,” Andretti remarked.

The team is backed by TWG Global, which operates Andretti Global, Wayne Taylor Racing, and Spire Motorsports. CEO Dan Towriss praised the partnership, saying, “Together with GM, we aim to deliver unforgettable moments to fans worldwide.”

Cadillac’s entry strengthens the U.S. presence in Formula 1, a sport enjoying surging popularity stateside. The move aligns with GM’s legacy of motorsport success, boasting over 3,000 wins and 100 championships.
