Formula 1 entry list confusion

THE FIA entry list as issued is as follows although there is a curious switch from the normal arrangements as the teams are not completely in the order in which they finished the 2001 World Championship. Sauber should, in theory, have been given the numbers 7 and 8 as the Swiss team finished fourth in the Constructors' Championship but for some reason those numbers have been given to Renault and Sauber has been given 16 and 17 the same as last year. There is also a rather confused situation regarding the two Honda teams as BAR has been listed before Jordan despite the fact that the Silverstone team finished two points ahead in the championship. Arrows finished 10th in the Constructors' series but for some reason has been allowed to retain its 14 and 15 numbering system from this year although these numbers should in theory at least belong to Renault. Similarly Jaguar should be numbers 16 and 17, Prost 18 and 19. It is believed that the numbering system has been modified so that teams can use the numbers in their marketing campaigns without having to change entire ranges of merchandise because of the previous year's results.

The drivers entered are subject to the granting of Super Licences and to the agreement of the Contract Recognition Board and they can be changed drivers up until 4 pm on February 28, 2002.
