Ford's all-new V10
THE Ford Motor Company has been forced to admit that the Formula 1 V10 engine it built at the start of last year is never going to be competitive enough and that a new design must be undertaken for the 1998 season.
The design work will be carried out as usual by Cosworth Engineering, with input from Ford's Advanced Engineering department in Dearborn.
The Zetec-R V10 engine - which is being used this year by Stewart - will be retained for use as the Ford customer unit, which is expected to be available to customers next year for around $8m for the season.
