GIANCARLO FISICHELLA set the fastest time for the second consecutive day at Jerez, putting his Benetton on top of the heap in the three day test.

Fisichella, whose Benetton is currently struggling in the cut and thrust of the midfield in 2001 was almost a full second quicker than Eddie Irvine at the wheel of the Jaguar R2. Irvine was focusing on the traction control systems which will be installed in time for the Spanish Grand Prix at the end of the month as well as different Michelin compounds, and was two tenths of a second faster than teammate Luciano Burti.

Benettonxs British driver Jenson Button was slowest, two and a half seconds off Fisichella?s best time and his B201 stopped on track due to a mechanical failure.
