Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro has lost its chief track engineer for engines, Pino d'Agostino. The 55-year-old engineer from Taranto was in charge of dyno development, production and track development in the tests and at races. He had been with Ferrari since recruited from Alfa Romeo in 1997. A very capable engine designer in his own right, d'Agostino was formerly head of engine design at Alfa between 1985 and 1996 and led the team that built the company's CART engine in 1989. He is moving to a new role within Fiat.

D'Agostino's place in the team is to be taken by Mattia Binotto, who was previously looking after Rubens Barrichello's engines. As part of the switcharound Frenchman Noel Cavey becomes the head of engine testing. Cavey was a Renault engineer in the Williams days but moved to Ferrari in 1995.
