F1 Circuits Form Association

Formula One-hosting circuits have joined forces to form the Formula One Promoters Association (FOPA), a company registered in Geneva and chaired by Ron Walker, boss if the Australian GP Corporation.

The circuits are apparently keen to have more of a voice in F1's future direction given their sizeable investment in the sport.

The news comes at a time when F1 is entering a highly political phase as the commercial rights holders, teams and the FIA all discuss a new Concorde Agreement which will govern the sport until 2020, including its technical direction.

Walker, of course, is a close cohort of Bernie Ecclestone and a betting man might wager that it won't be too long before the circuits say, not for the first time, but with a combined voice, that they don't want the noise and spectacle diluted by 'green' small capacity turbos. Just our hunch¦
